"All About Me"

As students are all new to the first grade, it's time we get to know everyone and break the ice to begin an awesome school year. By completing the below activity students will be able to
1) Understand the concept of mind mapping.
2) Demonstrate symbolism.
3) Get to know their fellow classmates.

We will begin by reading a back to school tale called "Chrysanthemum" by Kevin Henkes. This is a story of a mouse who loved her unusual name until she went back to school and was made fun of for it. The story goes into a great twist and is sure one for students to enjoy.

Following the story, students will create a map about them. Children will think of a symbol that represents them and place within the center. They will then branch out from the center symbol to a variety of things about themselves. These will consist of their birthday, favorite food or character, interest, etc.

Following the activity, students will be able to share their "All About Me" Map with their fellow classmates. This is a great way to make a new friend and get to know one another.

Introduction

Hello to Everyone, My name is Miss Plante and I would like to welcome you to my first grade classroom blog. I have written a little information below to introduce you to by beliefs and the structure of our classroom.  I look forward to having an amazing and memorable year with each  and every one of you.

My Philosophy: In choosing to become a teacher, I have made the commitment to myself, my future students to strive to be the best educator and role model that I can be. It is my goal to have a successful-teaching career by keeping an open mind and continually to place my students first in order for educational success. Throughout my days as a teacher, I will stay true to myself and put all effort into whatever tasks I partake in. I promise provide a well-rounded education to every student I encounter and truly touch upon there brain but there
hearts as well.

My Teaching Style:  My Students are my number one priority. I have a student centric teaching style. I am a strong believer in that no two students are the same, and everyone is different. This goes along with how students learn which is why I will  teach every student different. I will accommodate my lessons differently meeting every students learning style which works best for that individual. I will consistently spend one on one time with each student where I will focus on their struggles and successes throughout the year.

My Classroom: Creative, unique, and colorful are the first words that come to mind when describing my classroom. A classroom environment should be informative, enjoyable and an comfortable. That is just exactly what I try to create for my students. This is not just a space that represents myself, the teacher but each and every student. Students should enjoy to be within our classroom which is why they are able to make it their own. From the first to the last day of school our classroom doors are wide open as a happy, creative, loving, enjoyable, and hard working learning environment.
